Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Susan Thomsen lives with her family in Connecticut. She is an alumna of the New Yorker's Goings On About Town department, and was the theater critic for New York Sidewalk, a Microsoft publication. She is the author of Elvis: A Tribute to the King, a gift book in the shape of a record. Her poetry has appeared in Streetcake Magazine, Unlost Journal, Tea: A Magazine, and Scribes*MICRO*Fiction; she has contributed nonfiction to the Poetry Foundation, PBS Parents' Booklights blog, and other venues.
Chicken Spaghetti, which is named after a favorite Southern casserole, began in 2005 as a blog about kids' books. The focus is now on books for adults, mostly poetry.
Still a picture-book enthusiast, Susan is proud to be a volunteer reader in several public-school classrooms. She also serves as a Community TA in Modern & Contemporary American Poetry, the MOOC offered by Coursera and the University of Pennsylvania.
