Hawkeslandia
July 07, 2005
Visit with illustrator Kevin Hawkes up in Maine, courtesy of the Bangor Daily News.
The house that Hawkes lives in greets the world with a porch floor painted a brilliant periwinkle blue. From side windows, leering golden jesters sporting courtly costumes gape at visitors. Knowing the zany imagery of such children's picture books as My Little Sister Ate One Hare, Westlandia, Sidewalk Circus, and Marvin and the Great North Woods, this is exactly what one expects from a visit to Hawkeslandia.
