Uri Shulevitz "All Stories Are About Change"
Dear Ms. Fantasy

Stage Whisper, HP1&6

As one of the only people on the planet who has not read one Harry Potter book, I feel obligated to explain. Uh, I have no explanation. I'm not anti-Harry or jealous of J.K. Rowling (okay, not that jealous). I loved The Lord of the Rings as a young adult, so I cannot claim to be a fantasy hater. I like Brits and boarding school (though I didn't go to one).

My dear niece told me about HP way back before the books were even available here; she had ordered her first copy from the U.K. She told me I would like them.

So, nine hundred years later, I have started Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I read a little bit out loud to my son, but he likes his stories with pictures. That's fine. He has plenty of time to decide if the books are what he wants to read. Meanwhile, I'm on page 58, where Harry has finally found out (from Hagrid) that he's a wizard.

I feel better now that I've confessed.

P.S. Do go read Quiet Bubble's post on the HP6 scene in my hometown. I chuckled over QB's description of one fellow at the store.
