Elizabeth Ward at the Washington Post examines some books for middle-schoolers: Lunch Money, by the ever-popular Andrew Clements; Pay the Piper, by Jane Yolen and Andrew Stemple; The Game of Silence, by Louise Erdrich; and Raven's Gate: The Gatekeepers, Book 1, by Anthony Horowitz.
