On the Banks of Lake Champlain
September 12, 2005
For those in the Burlington, Vermont, area, here's a literary event: Anita Silvey's appearance at the Burlington Literary Festival on Sunday, September 25th. She's touring in support of the paperback edition of her excellent guide 100 Best Books for Children, which is a must-read.
The Burlington festival, dedicated to Katherine Paterson this year, sparkles with some other big names like Grace Paley, Galway Kinnell, Stephen McCauley, the Moosewood Collective (three cheers for the Moosewood cookbook), Chris Bohjalian, and Russell Banks. Events run from Friday, September 23rd, until Sunday, September 25th.
Luminaries from the world of children's publishing include Harry Bliss, Steven Kellogg, and Julius Lester; they will all be part of Kid Lit Day on the 25th.
A big thank-you to the Flying Pig bookstore, of Charlotte, VT, for alerting readers to this festival.
While you're in Burlington, don't miss the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center. Your young scientist/environmentalist will love it.
