How funny ! You, Kelly and I have all mentioned the Whitbread list, particularly the children's books... And I hadn't looked at either of your Blogs before posting mine ! I must see if I can get hold of the children's titles (not that interested in the adult ones !) - the trouble is that the "YA" section of the children's library in the main Oxford library has been denuded of a good half of its titles suddenly - and I can't discover anyone who can tell me why... Very strange !

Michele, it surely is a case of great minds thinking alike, yes? :) I haven't even fully examined the "adult" lists yet, and only know some of the kids' ones from the reviews. The prize money looks pretty nice. What is it for the book of the year winner? 25,000 pounds or so? Not bad!

I can't recall how much the prize money is - but I wouldn't say "no" to it ! :-D

Yes, definitely great minds think alike !! (We won't recall the bit about fools differing, will we ?!)

I've given up on most adult fiction of recent years that isn't fantasy... I can't stand the lack of plot that seems to have afflicted much adult fiction ! I just re-read "Pride and Prejudice" this week - hence the lack of many book reviews on my Blog - and I was reminded all over again just why books like Austen's, Charlotte Bronte's and Charles Dickens' go on being re-read...

I fear that at 37, I'm finally turning into the old fogey I've been threatening to become for the past decade or more !
