Poetry Friday: Judith Viorst

Judith Viorst's "Some Things Don't Make Any Sense at All" gave me a laugh this morning, so having met that criteria, it's my choice for Poetry Friday. You can riffle through the archives at the Academy of American Poets' web site and find several other poems that Viorst wrote for children. Viorst's name was linked at the article "Serious Play: Reading Poetry with Children," which offers a number of online reading suggestions and references. Very handy.

Now I must go see what poetic thoughts the other children's literature bloggers are thinking today; Hip Writer Mama has the roundup of all things verseful. To find out more about Poetry Friday (what is it? how did it start?), see this article at the Poetry Foundation. All are welcome.

Go forth and rhyme.

Funny!

Well, as a second child, I'm not at ALL sympathetic. Why indeed! :)

Thanks for laugh. It really caught me by surprise.

That's a little gem for sure. Viorst rocks!

The thing I love best is the title of the book: If I Were in Charge of the World...AND OTHER WORRIES. Worries. Being in charge isn't all it's cracked up to be!

Hi, y'all. I'm glad you liked this one. I didn't expect the funny ending either. It's told from such a kid's point of view.

Funny! And fun! I like the rhythm ... the way it sort of forces you stop for a few beats before reading the final climactic line.

Yes, it does.

I'll have to look for the entire book. One of the joys of Poetry Friday is discovering new books in the process of finding something to write about!

does anyone know where to find "i'm freaking, i'm freaking my mom's gone antiquing"? i'm positive it's by judith viorst but i'm having tons of trouble finding it...
