First the Egg
January 14, 2008
Perhaps inspired by the selection of First the Egg for a Caldecott honor, Fuzzy the Backyard Hen and All-Around Literary Chicken laid her first egg this morning. Photos ensued. Now back to children's books.

It's so exciting, TadMack! We're very proud of her!

Mary Lee, isn't that so funny! Now I will always remember when the first egg came. Maybe we need to name a chicken Caldecott one of these days.

Congrats to Fuzzy! And to you.

Say, Susan -- what's that egg like? Is it noisy?
Mad props to Fuzzy!

A hearty congratulations from fellow egg-layers Wanda and Neutron in Texas!

Thanks, everyone, and my apologies for your comments not showing up initially. Typepad is working on that.
Today Fuzzy laid her second egg right in the nest (instead of the mud), following the directions to a T.
Aw, Chris, you know about eggs: An Egg Is Quiet. (That's the title another great kids' book, y'all.)

Susan,
I think I'll have to compile a bibliography of "chick" lit in honor of the occasion!

Elaine, chickens are truly picture-book stars. One of these days I just might have to try penning a chicken story myself. Meanwhile, I look forward to the compilation!
