US Kid-Lit Ambassador Named

Jon Scieszka, the author of witty and subversive children’s favorites like “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” and “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales,” is to be named the country’s first national ambassador for young people’s literature on Thursday, a kind of children’s book version of the Library of Congress’s poet laureate program.

From "Stinky Cheese! Ambassador for Children's Literature," by Motoko Rich, in The New York Times, 1.3.08.

GalleyCat's Ron Hogan attended the official announcement event today; don't miss his report. Scieszka told Hogan that reluctant readers will be a big part of his focus.

I thought he was a great choice. You?

Me, too, Sara. A fun choice, too!
