National Book Award Winners 2008
November 20, 2008
The winners. I added links to bookstores and to blog coverage of the books:
Young People's Literature
What I Saw and How I Lied, by Judy Blundell.
(Short review at the blog Collecting Children's Books. Scroll down on the page.)
Poetry
Fire to Fire: New and Collected Poems, by Mark Doty.
(The poet has a blog!)
Nonfiction
The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family, by Annette Gordon-Reed.
(The Long 18th, an academic blog about 18th century scholarship, reports on a reading by Gordon-Reed in her home state of Texas.)
Fiction
Shadow Country, by Peter Matthiesen.
These winners were announced last night, 11/19/08. Further information at the National Book Foundation.
Thanks for posting this! I'm feeling so behind on current titles, I hadn't even heard of the Young People's Literature winner. Now I want to read it...

Els, the book I predicted would win the fiction prize (Tom Piazza's "City of Refuge") didn't even get nominated! Clearly I have some reading to do, too.
